SheSaidYes - Louise & Gus
08 August 2017
As a geologist in my former life, it's always fun to help my geology friends get engaged and married. Geologists can be known for their rather bizarre sense of humour and nothing illustrates this more than the story below...
"Gus proposed to me a few days short of our 3 year anniversary. He had arranged a surprise escape up to the bush, and on the second night, after some fantastic game viewing, a private dinner for 2 on the balcony of our bush tent was waiting.
After the main course, Gus went inside to collect something...and a bottle of champagne arrived. When he came back, he said, "My father always told me that if I were to propose that I should give the lucky girl a really big rock!"
He then produced a piece of pseudotachylitic breccia (a rock formed by a meteorite impact which I had studied as part of my degree), which he had polished up and which had a hole containing the sapphire engagement ring!
We are both geologists, so this part probably only makes sense to us! Needless to say, the "rock" featured a prominant part in our wedding celebrations as well!"
