Fancy coloured diamonds on auction in September
10 October 2017
Blue continues to be the hottest colour on the diamond auction block and of the Top 10 diamonds auctioned in 2016, four of them were blue. This September, another 2 blue diamonds will go under the hammer at two different auctions, along with a number of other fine jewels and gems.
On the 20th September, Bonhams will be holding their London Fine Jewellery sale, featuring, amongst other items, a Fancy Blue Intense diamond, weighing 4.03cts. This pear-cut diamond has been in a UK-based private collection for 30 years and its anticipated auction price is $1.5 to $1.9 million.
The diamond will be show-cased in London, New York, Hong Kong and Geneva, where it is expected to garner considerable interest, according to Bonham’s Head of Jewellery for UK and Europe, Jean Ghika.
Moving across the Atlantic, a collection of coloured diamonds will be on display in New York, Dallas and Beverley Hills from the 7th September. This tour will culminate in Heritage Auctions “Beverley Hills Fine Jewelry Acution” on the 25th September.
On auction will be a rare 3.23ct cushion cut Fancy Blue diamond with SI2 clarity, set in a platinum ring and expected to sell for $900,000 to $1.2million. Also of considerable interest at the Heritage Auction will be a 5.04ct Fancy Intense Purplish-Pink diamond ring (estimated at $100,000 to $150,000), a 7.48ct rectangular brilliant-cut Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond ring, a 10.45ct Fancy Yellow oval ring and a matched pair of Fancy Yellow Diamond earrings with a total weight of over 6.00 carats.
Whilst it’s unlikely that any of these coloured diamonds will break any of the price records set so far, it will be interesting to see what prices are reached in the current economy.
