The Crimson Flame lights up Hong Kong
11 November 2015
As far as international gemstone auctions go, it seems as if rubies are all the rage. When Christie’s Hong Kong hosts it’s Magnificent Jewels auction on the 1st December, all eyes will be on the remarkable Crimson Flame ruby. This 15ct pigeon-blood Burmese ruby is estimated to sell for anywhere between $10 - $15million.
Considering Christie’s has described the stone as by far the most important pigeon’s blood ruby to be offered at auction in Asia, the pre-sale estimate may not be far off the mark. The auction of the Crimson Flame follows on from last spring’s sale of a Burmese ruby and diamond necklace, by Etcetera, which achieved a sale price of $118million.
In addition to the Crimson Flame ruby, which is mounted in a white gold and diamond ring, buyers can also look forward to making offers on a Burmese pigeon-blood and ruby diamond necklace and matching earrings (the “Mogok’s Fiery Red” suite), a 7.53ct pink diamond and diamond ring and “The Afghan Emerald”, a 10.11ct no-oil, flawless emerald ring.
